Learn More from Rouen CDJR!
In recent times, gas prices have skyrocketed. In fact, in the spring of 2021, the national average was just $2.79 per gallon. While gas prices are out of the consumer's control, there are ways to save on fuel to make your visits to the pump a little less painful. One of these ways is through money-saving phone apps. With gas prices consistently rising, drivers have no reason to pay full price at the pump with these apps. Continue reading below to learn more!
GasBuddy
The first and most common gas app is GasBuddy. To use this app, simply type in your ZIP code, and prices at gas stations in your area will pop up. GasBuddy relies on its users to report the gas prices in collaboration with data that the gas stations provide. Therefore, despite a slight chance of inaccuracies, it's generally spot on. This app also offers users a credit card that directly links to their bank account. By putting in your bank information and driver's license, the card saves drivers up to 25 cents per gallon! For serious GasBuddy users, there's the premium service. This saves drivers a guaranteed 20 cents per gallon for up to 50 gallons per month. Sometimes, drivers can even save as much as 40 cents. The GasBuddy premium service costs $9.99/month.
Gas Guru
Gas Guru is another app that shows users gas prices in their area. With this app, you can sort the results by distance from your current location, fuel grade, and price. Drivers can be confident in this app as it is owned by the Yellow Pages and all of the information provided comes directly from the Oil Price Information Service. This user-friendly app will also show drivers what businesses are near the gas stations. So, say you need to grab a bite to eat or run some other errands. Then, you can visit the station that has the appropriate businesses nearby.
GetUpside
GetUpside states that users can save up to 25 cents per gallon using the app. Unlike with the GasBuddy card, instead of linking your bank information, you simply take a photo of your gas receipt in the app to get your savings with GetUpside. However, GetUpside has its “Check-In” feature. This sometimes allows users to simply pay with a saved debit or credit card rather than taking a photo of the receipt. GetUpside gives users cashback by check, digital gift cards, or PayPal.
How to maximize fuel economy
While these apps are a surefire way to save on gas, fuel efficiency starts with you and your vehicle. To help stretch each gallon of gas, it’s essential to keep up with your vehicle's routine maintenance. This includes oil changes, tire rotations, fuel system cleanings, spark plugs, and more. Additionally, how you drive affects your fuel economy. For instance, rapid acceleration and fast cruising speeds can have a negative impact on your gas mileage. However, applying steady pressure on the gas pedal and using cruise control at the speed limit can help get more miles out of each gallon of gas.
