We're Teaming Up
to Save Lives

Once again, Rouen Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram has partnered with Lucas County Children's Services and the Toledo Area Humane Society for the Beat the Heat — Check the Back Seat campaign.

Each year, dozens of children and untold numbers of pets left in parked vehicles die from hyperthermia — a serious and potentially fatal condition that occurs when the body absorbs more heat than it can handle.

NEVER leave your child or pet alone in a car.

Children are especially vulnerable — their bodies warm at a rate 3–5× faster than adults. Even a seemingly mild day outside can mean a deadly interior.

Prevention Tips

Important Tips to Remember

Follow these life-saving steps every time you step out of your vehicle, all summer long.

Always Do a Back Seat Check

When you reach your destination, make sure all children have left the car. Place a purse, briefcase, or phone in the back seat so you'll always have a reason to check before walking away.

Never Leave Sleeping Infants

Never leave a sleeping infant in the vehicle — no matter how brief. Waking baby is a small price to pay compared to the alternative.

Check Buckles for Heat

Make sure car seat and safety belt buckles aren't dangerously hot before securing your child. Metal and dark plastic heat up fast and can burn tender skin.

Never Leave Unattended

Never leave your child alone in a vehicle, even with windows down. A child could accidentally put the car into gear — injuring themselves or others.

Teach Children to Stay Away

Teach children not to play in, on, or around parked cars. They could become trapped in a trunk or be struck by a vehicle that moves unexpectedly.

Lock Doors & Secure Keys

Always lock car doors and trunks — even at home — and keep keys out of children's reach at all times.

If You See a Child or Pet in a Hot Car

Don't wait. If a child or animal appears to be in distress, call 911 immediately. In many states, Good Samaritan laws protect those who act in good faith to save a life. Your quick action could make all the difference.
