2023 Dodge Demon 170 Engine
Many of the 2023 Dodge Demon 170's specs are in comparison with the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. This is because the Demon 170 uses an upgraded version of the high-output supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8 found in the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. In fact, the only engine component that was not touched is the camshaft. These upgrades provide the Demon 170 with drastic performance improvements. The '170' in the name is added because the engine shares similar characteristics with the C170 Hellephant supercharger from Direct Connection. The improved supercharger gives the Demon 170 21.3 PSI of maximum boost pressure. This tops the 15.3 PSI provided by the Hellcat Redeye. In turn, this provides the Demon's engine with airflow increased by 30% compared to the Hellcat Redeye. The fuel injectors are upgraded to provide 164 gallons of fuel to the engine per hour, which is more than the average American showerhead. The engine is upgraded to run on Ethanol fuel. Power output numbers are determined by using sensors to detect the ethanol percentage in the fuel being used. For example, the Demon 170 delivers 900 horsepower and 810 lb-ft of torque when Premium fuel with a 10% ethanol blend is used. However, 1,025 horsepower and 945 lb-ft of torque is achieved by using E85 ethanol!
Performance Features of the 2023 Demon 170
Better than anyone, Dodge knows that, while important, having a powerful engine only gets you about halfway to having a high-performance vehicle like the Demon 170. In order to get the rest of the way, it needs specialized equipment and features. For example, Dodge partnered with Lacks Enterprises to develop two-piece carbon fiber lightweight wheels to be available for the Demon 170. Compared to the Hellcat Redeye, this reduced the vehicle's weight by a whopping 157 pounds! The Challenger shed an additional 16 pounds by removing the front wheel flares. The Demon 170 is also the first production car to have staggered wheels and wheel flares. In the front, the Demon 170 wears Mickey Thomson ET Street drag radials that are 245 millimeters across and have a diameter of 18 inches. Meanwhile, the rear tires sit under widebody fender flares and span 315 millimeters, and cover 17-inch wheels. The Demon 170 also features adaptive damping suspension with Drag Mode, line lock, launch control, launch assist, SRT Performance Pages, SRT Drive Modes, and much more.
What Records has the 2023 Demon 170 Set?
When the Demon 170 was revealed, it was also crowned with a wide range of new records in the automotive industry. For example, it is crowned the quickest vehicle Dodge has produced in its 100-year history. It is also the most powerful muscle car in the world, topping 1,000 horsepower. With a 1.66-second 0-60 time, providing a G-force reading of 2.004 Gs, the Demon 170 is also the world's quickest muscle car. It also runs an 8.91-second quarter-mile time, meaning that, without a parachute and safety cage, it is banned from NHRA competition for running a sub-nine-second quarter mile. The Demon 170's sub-nine-second quarter mile time also makes it the first-ever eight-second factory muscle car.
