2021 Ram 1500 Power & Handling

The 2021 Ram 1500 lineup comes with four available engines. The base engine under the hood of the Tradesman, Big Horn, and Rebel trims is a 3.6L V6 with 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Available on all trim levels is a 3.0L V6 EcoDiesel that pushes out 260 horsepower and a hefty 460 lb-ft of torque. This provides a max towing capacity of 12,560 lbs! A 5.7L V8 is optional on the Tradesman, Big Horn, and Rebel but standard on the Laramie and Limited trims. The V8 pushes out 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. That's enough power to fulfill most driver's needs. But for the thrill-seekers, there is the Ram 1500 TRX with a 6.2L supercharged V8 Hellcat engine that attacks all road surfaces with 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque! All Ram 1500 engines are paired with a robust TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. The TRX transmission is reinforced to handle the extra power and torque. Two-wheel drive is the standard setup, while four-wheel drive is optional. However, the Rebel and TRX trims both come standard with 4WD.

The Chevy Silverado also offers four engines, but the lineup just isn't as powerful as that of the Ram 1500. The lineup starts with a 4.3L V6 that produces 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. The next engine is the optional 2.7L turbocharged I4 that kicks out 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque. There is a diesel option, a 3.0L I6 that kicks out 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The diesel is capable of hauling up to 9,500lbs. The top-notch engine in the Silverado lineup is a 6.2L V8 that cranks out a total of 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Like the Ram 1500, the normal drivetrain is two-wheel drive with 4WD as an available option. The 4.3L V6 is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission while the others can be mated to either an 8-speed or 10-speed automatic.
