2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L 4x4 Systems

Quadra-Trac I uses input from multiple sensors that monitor wheelspin and detect a loss of traction. This information is continuously sent to the single-speed transfer case, automatically making corrections when a slip occurs. These corrections are made by redistributing up to 100 percent of the engine's available torque to the axle with the most traction. This response happens automatically without any driver input. As changes in road conditions and traction occur, the system will continuously make the necessary adjustments. 

Quadra-Drive II replaces Quadra-Trac I with a two-speed transfer case with low-range gear reduction. This uses a network of sensors to monitor wheel slip and will pre-emptively redistribute the torque to make the necessary corrections. Quadra-Trac II sets itself apart from Quadra-Trac I with its Active 4-Low torque control with a 2.72:1 gear ratio. This improves the vehicle's off-roading maneuverability to provide unwavering capability.

The top-of-the-line 4x4 system available for the Grand Cherokee L is Quadra-Drive II with a two-speed active transfer case and a rear electronic limited-slip differential. Quadra-Drive II instantly detects slippage and reacts by distributing 100% of available engine torque to the tires with optimal grip. Additionally, the vehicle will anticipate low traction and adjust itself to limit or eliminate the slip before it occurs. Quadra-Drive II is available to the Overland trim level when it is equipped with the Off-Road Group, while standard on the Summit and Summit Reserve trims.

All 4x4 variants of the Grand Cherokee L come with Jeep's Selec-Terrain Traction Management system. This allows drivers to choose on and off-road settings for optimal 4x4 performance. Selec-Terrain electronically coordinates throttle control, transfer case, ABS, steering and suspension, transmission shifts, 4x4 torque split, and six different powertrains. This system operates with five selectable drive modes, Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud, and Rock. Each mode will make the necessary adjustments to the vehicle's systems to best handle that particular road surface.
