Large families need large SUVs, and the Dodge Journey and the Toyota Highlander are two of the best. Both of these SUVs seat seven to eight passengers and come with plenty of technological features to keep both you and your family entertained on long car trips. With such a competitive market, consumers need to know which vehicle is the best before they make a purchase, so we will compare the Dodge Journey and the Toyota Highlander to see which one is the best to spend your money.

2019 Dodge Journey Power & Handling

The standard for the SE and Crossroad trims of the Dodge Journey is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque. It comes with four-wheel-drive and strong fuel consumption of 21 mpg. Optional for those trims and the standard for the GT is a 3.6-liter V6 which develops 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Both of these engines pair with a four-speed automatic. All-wheel-drive is available with the V6 as is the fuel consumption of 19 mpg. If you're looking to tow some cargo, the 2.4-liter can tow 1,000 pounds, and the V6 can pull 2,500.

2019 Toyota Highlander Power & Handling

There are a few engine options available for the Toyota Highlander. The base LE comes with a 2.7-liter four-cylinder with front-wheel-drive and a six-speed automatic transmission. Optional is a V6 with an eight-speed automatic with the option of all-wheel-drive. The Highlander uses stop/start technology with the V6 to save fuel but still gets a lower range when compared to the Dodge Journey. The four-cylinder Highlander can tow 1,500 pounds, which is lower than the Journeys 2,500 pound towing ability.

2019 Dodge Journey Features & Design

In 2019, Dodge has reduced the available trim levels to three to add more standard equipment to the base level SE. These features include 17-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, roof rails, heated side mirrors, and a height-adjustable driver's seat. Also included are keyless ignition and entry, a rearview camera, and a 4.3-inch touchscreen with a six-speaker sound system. You can also upgrade the SE with a Connectivity Package with Bluetooth, satellite radio, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. A Comfort and Convenience package with upgraded cloth upholstery and power-adjustable driver's seat. And a Blacktop package with 17-inch alloy wheels and blacked-out exterior trim. Higher trim levels give you features like 19-inch wheels, touring-tuned suspension, heated front seats, and a three-zone climate control system with rear-seat vents.

2019 Toyota Highlander Features & Design

The Toyota Highlander comes with six trim levels with some exciting features. The base-level LE comes with rear air conditioning, a rearview camera, a height-adjustable driver's seat, and a 6.1-inch touchscreen with five USB ports, Bluetooth and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player. Higher trim levels include features such as foglights, flip-up rear window, a height-adjustable power liftgate, roof rails, keyless entry and ignition, a rear cargo cover, and heated and ventilated front seats. Conclusions

It's a tough call, but we are going to go with the Dodge Journey. We love how great the Journey is on gas, and the features of the Journey's base-level SE with the option packages far outweighs that of the Highlander. But don't take out word for it, come down to the dealership and take a test drive! You can also check out a full review of the Journey right here on our website.
