The byway runs along the shoreline of Lake Erie, giving the sparkling waters a beautiful backdrop of yellow, orange, and red leaves. This route leads you to Cleveland, where you can stop and stretch your legs at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and a wide array of local entertainment and food spots. In one afternoon, the Lake Erie Coastal Byway gives you a tour of Ohio’s country and urban settings.

Maumee Valley Scenic Byway

The Maumee Valley Scenic Byway begins in the city of Defiance, where you should stop and see the Defiance Public Library, as it is one of Ohio’s most beautiful buildings. This route follows the Maumee River eastward and passes through Napoleon and Waterville before ending up in Maumee, where you should visit the former British Fort Miamis, which is now a city park. Other popular stopping points are the historic Henry County Courthouse in Napoleon and the Garden Smiles store in Waterville.

Covered Bridge Scenic Byway

The Covered Bridge Scenic Byway takes drivers through some of the most beautiful countryside scenery in Ohio. The Byway follows State Route 26 from Marietta to Woodsville and runs along the Little Muskingum River for a majority of its length. If you want to make it a weekend-long trip, there are four campgrounds scattered throughout the route. The Covered Bridge Scenic Byway is a self-guided tour through gorgeous scenery and many of Ohio’s historic landmarks. With its title, you can also expect to come across a handful of covered bridges, including what was once the longest covered bridge in America and what is America’s shortest covered bridge.
